Message Flow

ADT messages

EMS supports inbound demographics via ADT messages. Only basic demographic messages and merges are required.

Messages Supported

Message Type	Default Action
ADT^A28, A31	update patient record
ADT^A40	merge patient records

EMS will accept other ADT message types, and can be configured to either:

• discard them (default) and return a positive ack AA
• treat them as demographic updates and update EMS from the PID and PD1 segments as above.

This segment is only present in ADT^A40 messages
